Brazil, 1977:<\/strong> During the exuberant carnival week, Marcelo (Wagner Moura), a man in his mid-forties, returns from S\u00e3o Paulo to the coastal city of Recife. There, he hopes to see his son again. But his arrival does not go unnoticed \u2013 amidst the celebrating crowds and omnipresent violence, Marcelo becomes entangled in an increasingly tight web of surveillance, corruption, and mistrust from which there is no escape. THE SECRET AGENT<\/strong> celebrated its world premiere in competition at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival and was awarded four major international prizes: two Golden Palms \u2013 for Best Actor and Best Director \u2013 as well as the \u201cCritics\u2019 Prize\u201d (FIPRESCI) and the Independent Cinema Award (CICAE). Lead actor Wagner Moura (Narcos<\/em>) received the Best Actor award in Cannes for his powerful portrayal of Marcelo. He stars alongside Maria Fernanda C\u00e2ndido (The Traitor \u2013 As a Crown Witness Against the Cosa Nostra<\/em>), Gabriel Leone (Netflix series Senna<\/em>), Hermila Guedes (Suely\u2019s Sky<\/em>), and Udo Kier (Melancholia<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE SECRET AGENT<\/strong> is an international co-production by Cinemasc\u00f3pio (Brazil), mk2 Productions (France), One Two Films (Germany), and Lemming Film (Netherlands), supported among others by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the FFA.
