In MONKEY KING, Oliver Rhis’s grotesque social satire, the wealthy bon vivant Wolfi (Hans-Jochen Wagner) invites his old friends Viktor (Samuel Finzi), Ralph (Oliver Korritke) and Martin (Marc Hosemann) to celebrate his 45th birthday at his luxurious mansion in the French Provence, joined by their wives (Jule Böwe, Jytte-Merle Böhrnsen) and kids.

The friends haven’t seen each other since the wild days of their youth in Berlin. They eat, drink and enjoy the sun, as long forgotten habits from the old days are revived. With their bellies filled to the brim and the excesses slowly but surely reaching their peaks, the characters get down to the nitty-gritty: In the French summer heat, old animosities collide with new sensibilities. As their life choices are questioned, their common pasts, glorified just a moment ago, are suddenly dissected and sacrificed on the altar of friendship.
